New stuff

Three great resources for nonprofit communications, each totally different from the last (and each deserves its own blog post–but better to be quick than thorough, in this case–I think):

ImpactMax on strategy

I recently co-presented on how to create a communications strategy plan and am doing a workshop called The Communications Audit in September for Nonprofit Alliance in Battle Creek, Mich. so I was particularly interested to read the “Impactmax” blog of Gayle Thorsen, Minneapolis-based communications consultant, on the subject of nonprofit/foundation communications plans, beginning last week with audits.

Incidentally, if you’re on LinkedIn, and you’re a nonprofit communicator — which if you’re not, why are you reading this? — check out Gayle and a lot of other folks in the nonprofit communicators group CMW started.

Downstate nonprofit conference

The Lumpkin Family Foundation has Heather McLeod-Grant, co-author of Forces for Good and Jan Masaoka of Blue Avocado as lead facilitators at its upcoming conference for nonprofits in central Illinois–it’s set for Aug. 27 in Champaign and costs $125 per person or $105 per person for teams of 2 or more.

Miniature Mariachis in Pilsen and more

Chicagoans, check out LISC New Communities Program Pilsen Portal, with news and videos like the short story above on a new mariachi band at Cooper School: “This is your portal… share your news tips, events, and get listed in the directory for free.” Read more about it at the blog communitybeat.
