“Hoop Dreams” at 15 — and youth today
With youth issues momentarily at the top of the city’s list of concerns, Kartemquin Films is celebrating the 15th anniversary of the release of its most famous film, “Hoop Dreams,” the award-winning story of two Chicago high school basketball players.
On Monday night, Kartemquin will screen segments of the film and host a youth-led panel discussion about leadership, responsibility, education, and nonviolence. Participants include two local youth organizing projects, Southwest Youth Collaborative and Woodlawn-based Metropolitan Area Group for Igniting Civilization.
It’s Monday, October 26, 7 p.m. at Columbia College’s Film Row Cinema, 1104 S. Wabash, and it’s free and open to the public.
