Vigil for immigrant rights
ICIRR and JCUA are among those organizing an interfaith vigil for immigration reform to mark International Human Rights Day tomorrow. It takes place at 4:30 p.m. at Federal Plaza, Dearborn and Adams.
Religious leaders will call for passage of immigration reform, joined by immigrants who have been affected by the current lack of avenues to legalization, including Rigo Padilla, a UIC honors student scheduled for deportation next week.
(Padilla’s supporters will discuss the status of his case – including a private bill introduced by U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky to stop the deportation – at a press briefing tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m. at the ICIRR office, 55 E. Jackson.)
