Pat Curry
Pat Curry has won numerous awards in his almost (!) three decades in broadcasting. Pat began his career as a receptionist at WMAQ-TV to help get through college. After working his way up through various positions, he worked for the WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee for a short time until returning to WMAQ as a full-time assignment editor for 15 years.
In addition to being responsible for helping create the stories that went into the station’s newscasts Pat also wrote and field produced for the station, garnering three local Emmy awards in his career there for Breaking News coverage.
Pat went on to work at WBBM briefly as a field producer and assignment editor. Since 1997 he’s been at WGN-TV as assignment editor, and has filled in as managing editor. For the past 7 years Pat has begun the broadcast day working for the station’s 4-hour live broadcast. In addition, Pat has contributed pieces to the Tribune, produced feature and investigative pieces for the station. In one week in December, Pat had two bylines on the paper’s front page, a rarity for any assignment editor.
In the ever-changing media enviroment, Pat has the added responsibility of writing some of the top stories for
the station’s Web site, as well as covering breaking news stories, and developing feature story ideas. Because of
the unique relationship with the paper, Pat has been able to bridge the gap between television and print, and regularly contributes to the paper’s Web site, the Breaking News Center. Pat graduated with a political science degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
