Chip Mitchell
Chip Mitchell is the West Side reporter of WBEZ, 91.5, Chicago’s National Public Radio affiliate. From a bureau in the city’s Humboldt Park neighborhood, he explores issues including immigration, housing, labor, policing, politics, public health and schools.
Before joining WBEZ in 2006, Mitchell reported in radio and print from a number of Midwest cities and Latin American countries, most recently from a base in Bogotá, Colombia. He has reported for National Public Radio, the BBC, the Dallas Morning News, the Christian Science Monitor, the Committee to Protect Journalists and many others.
The Milwaukee Press Club named a story Mitchell authored for Madison’s Isthmus as that year’s best investigative report in Wisconsin. His WBEZ reporting has earned awards from the Chicago Headline Club and Public Radio News Directors Incorporated. Born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, Mitchell earned a B.A. in History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He lives in Humboldt Park with his partner, Alba Cárdenas.
