Mandy Burrell Booth
Mandy Burrell Booth has been with the Metropolitan Planning Council since June 2004, when she joined MPC as communications associate. She was promoted to assistant communications director in January 2008. She serves as the primary media contact for the organization, and conceives of, writes and edits many of MPC’s op-eds, news releases, and media briefing materials. Mandy also plays a lead role in helping MPC use traditional communications strategies, storytelling, and electronic and social media tools to communicate its goals and mission to the public and decision makers.
Formerly a community reporter in Chicago, Mandy has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, where she also earned an adjunct major in gender studies. She continues to freelance for local and national magazines and contributes to the local blog Gapers Block. She serves as a member of Community Renewal Society’s Marketing and Communications Committee and was a member of The Chicago Reporter’s 2009 Reader Panel. Previously, she has served as a member of the National Board of Directors and president of the Chicago Advisory Board of Neighbors Project. She also has lent her communications expertise as a member of the Great Lakes Urban Exchange (GLUE); member of Erie Neighborhood House’s Strategic Communications Steering Committee; and communications trainer for local nonprofit professionals. She is a member of Publicity Club Chicago and Association for Women Journalists.
Mandy lives in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood with her husband. She balances her passion for cooking and food with her love of running.
