Susy Schultz


Susy Schultz is the president of Community Media Workshop and an adjunct professor in the journalism department at Columbia College Chicago. Her past titles include managing editor, digital editor, investigative editor, associate publisher, reporter, columnist and editorial writer.

She’s worked for newspapers, a wire service, websites and magazines covering politics, health care, business and parenting for the Chicago Sun-Times, The Chicago Reporter, Chicago Tribune, New York Times Syndicate and Chicago Parent as well as a frequent guest on radio and television shows.

Proud of her past, she is excited about her future and that of the industry. She teaches and takes digital classes at Columbia College Chicago.

Recently, she worked as readership director for The Daily Journal in Kankakee and was a freelance editor working with the Schuster Institute for Investigative Reporting at Brandeis University.

She has worked in government, academia and the foundation world. She is fluent in Spanish; lives in Chicago; is AWJ Chicago chapter’s founding president; vice president of JAWS, Journalism and Women Symposium – a national organization supporting the professional development of women in media; an IRE member; and the mother of two amazing men.
