Susy Schultz is the president of Community Media Workshop. Her past titles include managing editor, digital editor, investigative editor, associate publisher, reporter, columnist and editorial writer. Proud of her past, she is excited about her future and that of the industry. She teaches and takes digital classes at Columbia College Chicago.

Maggie organizes the Workshop’s annual fundraiser, the Studs Terkel Community Media Awards; handles logistics for the annual conference, Making Media Connections; and manages the Workshop’s year-round marketing efforts to promote the organization’s popular media guide and regularly scheduled trainings.

Stephen Franklin

At the Workshop, Steve manages the Ethnic Media Project, helped to develop and launch the anti-violence campaign “We Are Not Alone/No Estamos Solos” to bring black and Latino communities together to spotlight anti-violence initiatives around Chicago, writes for and edits the Chicago is the World blog, trains journalists in Chicago and abroad on writing about violence and conflict and is currently working on producing an updated guide to writing about violence for journalists. He recently co-directed a documentary on the effect of gun violence on Chicago’s residents for MSNBC as well.
Deontae Moore

Deontae, born and raised from the south side of Chicago, is the Workshop’s new Marketing & Digital Media Manager. He recently graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Journalism from the prestigious Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. Additionally, he graduated at the top of his class at Urban Prep Charter Academy High School, holding over a 4.0 cumulative GPA. He’s worked with nonprofit organizations in the past and hopes to continue to shed light on the unheard voices in Chicago. He’s passionate about storytelling and social media. As CMW’s new Marketing & Digital Media Manager, he hopes to merge both passions and make a difference in Chicago.
Angelique White

Angelique has been working to strengthen the customer service experience at the Workshop for nearly a year and a half. She organizes the Workshop’s databases, updates the Chicago Media Guide contacts constantly, and manages all of our event and training feedback. Angelique recently graduated from Columbia College Chicago and hopes to pursue a career in broadcast journalism.
