Daniel Castro Wins Studs Terkel Scholarship Award

Columbia College student Daniel Castro, a Television Production major, wins this year’s Studs Terkel Scholarship for his multimedia documentary The Forgotten Mile.

Through a series of photographs and video installations in which he conducts man-on-the-street interviews, Daniel gives us a first-hand look at life of Chicago’s homeless on Michigan Avenue – offering a new perspective on the city’s “Magnificent Mile”.

Daniel grew up in Houston, Texas and attended the University of Houston focusing on Media Communication. He transferred his freshmen year to Columbia College Chicago to pursue Television Production.  Exploring an interest in cultural studies, his developing understanding of other societies and people galvanized his interest in documentarian work.
