PRIMEHEALTH-300x258

This week we wanted to connect and get to know some of the folks who’ve registered for the Making Media Connections conference. We will be doing a series of interviews up until the conference to get a sense of why communicating effectively is so important to the nonprofit sector.

Here is what Joan Sheforgan, CEO of PrimeCare Community Health, Inc.  had to say:

What value do you see in nonprofits communicating effectively?

Effective communication is key to a nonprofit’s ability to tell their story in a way that brings attention to the mission, vision, and value of the nonprofit.   Key decision makers: funders, policy makers, potential partners respond to concise, thoughtful, clear communications.

Why did you feel it necessary to invest in attending this year’s Making Media Connections Conference?

As the Chief Executive Officer of a smaller community organization, I am responsible for securing funding as well as for corporate communications. PrimeCare Community Health is achieving some significant outcomes in reducing the health care disparities in our communities; yet, we are a well-kept secret.  If we are to be successful in competing for funding as well as for patients, the organization now requires the development of a communication plan to include an outreach program that utilizes all potential media sources.

What do you plan to do with what you learn at the conference?

I plan to learn effective means of communication through the use of traditional as well as social media.  The objective outcome will be to prepare an outline of a communication/outreach plan for Senior Leadership to review, finalize, and implement during 2010.
